Review guidelines
HomeTruths only works if reviews are honest and specific. These are the rules we hold everyone to, including ourselves.
Effective 10 August 2026
Plain-language draft. These terms were written by the site’s founder, not a lawyer, and have not yet been reviewed by one. They say how we intend to run HomeTruths; they are not legal advice, and we may revise them.
Write about the place, not the people
Criticise the building, the management company, the developer or the service as hard as your experience deserves. “The lifts fail weekly and management ignores emails” is exactly what this site is for.
Do not name individual members of staff. A concierge, a guard or a leasing agent did not agree to appear on a public page about their workplace, and in the UAE naming someone in a complaint carries real legal risk for you as well as for us. Reviews that name a specific person are held for a human to read before they publish, including complimentary ones. Describe the role instead: “the night guard”, “the leasing team”.
Say what happened, not what you assume
Describe what you experienced and when. Avoid stating as fact things you cannot know: that money was stolen, that someone was bribed, that a company is committing fraud. If you suspect something, say what you actually observed and let readers draw their own conclusion. Accusations of criminal conduct against a named individual are blocked outright.
Only review somewhere you’ve lived
One review per person per residence. Don’t review a building you’ve only visited, viewed or heard about. Don’t review your own building if you own, manage, let or sell in it. If you have a commercial interest, you are not a resident reviewer.
No incentives, no campaigns
Never accept a discount, a gift or a favour in exchange for a review, and never post on behalf of a landlord, agent or developer. Coordinated posting to lift or sink a building is the fastest way to have every review from that source removed.
Keep it usable
No contact details, unit numbers, or anyone’s personal information, including your own. No marketing, listings or referral links. No abuse, slurs, threats or sexual content.
How moderation works
Every submission passes through automated checks and, where the text needs judgement, an AI classifier. Content splits three ways: published, held for a human to read, or refused. The system is deliberately biased toward letting criticism through. It looks at who a statement targets, not how angry it sounds. A furious review of a management company publishes; a mild one naming the manager personally does not.
We do not remove reviews because a building owner dislikes them. We remove reviews that break these guidelines. If you believe something here breaks them, report it and we will look.
If you are a building owner or manager
Reviews on this site are residents’ personal opinions and experiences, not statements of fact by us. If you believe a specific review is false or breaks these guidelines, use the report link on the review itself or write to legal@hometruths.io identifying the residence, the review, and what specifically is inaccurate. We aim to respond within 7 days. We will not disclose a reviewer’s identity except where legally required.
