Meydan sits inland from Downtown on the Nad Al Sheba side of Ras Al Khor Road, built around the racecourse and its grandstand hotel. The name now covers a spread of newer development: apartment buildings along Meydan Avenue, villa and townhouse communities behind them, and the golf course and polo grounds in between.
It is close to Downtown by car and quiet in a way Downtown is not, which is the appeal for families and for people who want space without moving to the edge of the city. Prices are high for a district still being finished. There is no metro, retail is thin outside the hotel and a few small centres, and building work continues across it.
